Chapter Five

A few days passed just like that. Nothing out of the ordinary happened in my life. But one day, I heard a child crying from Steven's house. I didn't remember there being a child and decided to check. I sneaked through the front window, and suddenly, I was staring right at the eyes of the old man from the picture. I froze and whited out. The next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital bed. I could see Steven standing beside the bed with a concerned look. I wasted no time and asked him about the old man in his house. He again thought I was being ridiculous. I told him I saw the man with my own eyes and that he was looking outside from their front window. He paused for a second and said in a somewhat angry voice, "Bro, I found you unconscious and brought you to the hospital. And instead of being grateful, you are asking me more questions about the person I already told you I have no idea about." I decided it was better for me to stay quiet, and then we returned to our houses.

I had so many questions in my head and wanted their answers. So, right after I got home, I searched my directory and found Autumn's number. I wasted no time and called Autumn. We decided to meet at a cafe. I told her everything I had experienced with the old man. Still defending her previous claim, she said, "My grandfather passed away way before I was born. I never got to see him in real life. The picture you saw that day in my room was one my father had given me before you, and I moved here from Texas." I knew there wasn't a way I could convince her I had seen the old man. But at the same time, I also understood that getting to the depth of the situation was necessary. So, I returned home.
